John Rizzo was first elected to the San Francisco Community College District Board of Trustees in 2006 and now serves as its Vice President.
John is the Chair of the Board's Facilities, Infrastructure, and Technology Committee, which oversees the District's construction projects and technology initiatives. He is also is a member of the Budget Committee.
John is also a member of the City College Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation traditionally raises funds for scholarships for students. John has been working with the Foundation to raise funds for classes.
When he was a member of City College’s Bond Oversight Committee, John worked for more efficient spending of the public bond funds. It was there that he first called for the District's first performance audit of taxpayer-funded construction projects, which he got enacted after he was elected.
For over ten years, John was a commissioner on the Golden Gate Park Concourse Authority, a body that directing land use policy and public improvements. He worked on overseeing a $50 million capital project and has fought for improvements to public safety and park amenities.
John is former chair of the Sierra Club's bay area chapter, and currently sits on its board. In 2008, John won a commendation from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for his work in environmental advocacy.
John is an author and content publisher in computer technology and enterprise systems. His most recent book was published in November 2009.
John has lived in San Francisco for 25 years, and has a child in the public school system.
